Pp. xxvi+544+[4](advertisements)+xxviii+348, 24 full page maps (all but one coloured), coloured endpaper maps (Volume II only), plus a further 72 [of 74] folding coloured maps and a folding plate housed in two separate matching cases (40 in the first box, and 34 maps plus the plate in the second box, most with number tabs present), folded Addenda & Corrigenda sheet loosely inserted in Volume II, appendices, indices; red cloth, spines lettered and ruled in gilt, slightly soiled and worn, with a few splits or chips to spine extremities, the spines with various degrees of fading; some pencilled underlining and marginalia in Volume I, lower hinge cracked and endpapers silverfished in same, scattered light foxing, soiling, and occasional minor wear & tear; Macmillan and Co. Ltd., London, 1922 & 1925. First editions. *Volume I: Mons, The Retreat to the Seine, The Marne and the Aisne August-October 1914. Volume II: Antwerp, La Bassee, Armentieres, Messines, and Ypres, October-November 1914. Maps and sketches compiled by Major A. F. Becke. Lacking 2 maps in the second box (numbers 4 & 31), but with facsimiles of these supplied, together with a facsimile duplicate of map #27 in box 1, and a duplicate (original) map 18 from box 2, plus a folding black & white map (Strategic conduct of the Great War by Germany.
