[vi]+320 (last blank)+[16](publisher's catalogue, dated May 1866), lithographic frontispiece and vignette title page; dark green cloth over bevelled boards, lettered and decorated in gilt, boards a trifle scuffed, fore-corners lightly worn, the spine cloth slightly wrinkled and neatly repaired at joints; uncut; hinges reinforced with cloth tape, small piece torn from foot of half-title page, a few tiny edge chips or splits, occasional light foxing and soiling; Hurst & Blackett, London, 1866. First edition. Not in Ferguson (who does record the same author's Memoirs of a chequered life, published in 3 volumes, in 1862). *Mainly memoirs of fishing and hunting in Scotland, England and Wales, but the final chapter deals with Charles Stretton's experiences in Australia during the 1850s. Headed Two Days with a Native Chief, it describes a kangaroo hunt near Castlemaine, in Victoria, led by 'one "King Tom"... the acknowledged chief of the Yarra Yarra tribe' [p.257]. Item #142098
