First edition. *The story of marathon walks by Chinese immigrants, from South Australia to the central Victorian goldfields, in order to avoid the provisions of a Victorian Act of 1855 which sought to drastically limit Chinese immigration. The Act restricted the number of crew and passengers on each ship bringing Chinese into Victoria, and stipulated that all Chinese entering Victoria pay a capitation tax of ten pounds. Item #079053
