THE MAKING OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE.

A monograph, with comparisons from the Bishops Bible and the manuscript annotations of 1602, with an original leaf from the great "She" Bible of 1611. Pp. [xii]+32(last blank)+[2](colophon, blank), 5 full page illustrations, title page decoration, 1 decorative initial, the title and first text pages printed in red & black; crown folio; cloth backed pictorial grey papered boards, the spine lettered in gilt, the boards slightly soiled, edges lightly worn; printed for Dawson's Book Shop at the Plantin Press, Los Angeles, 1956. Edition limited to 290 copies, each with an original leaf from the King James "She" Bible, 1611. Hamel 113. *Leaf book. The original leaf in this copy, loosely inserted within a bound-in folded sheet, is from the Gospel of St. Mark, chapters 4 and 5. Printed double column, black letter, with two decorative initials, the leaf is a trifle soiled and foxed, with a light damp stain extending from the fore-edge on both sides, slightly affecting the text. The so-called "She" Bible is generally accepted as the second issue of the first edition of the King James Bible, with the more commonly accepted rendering of 'and she went into the city' in Ruth III, 15. (The earlier issue rendered this as 'he went into the city' and is therefore known as the "He" Bible). Item #085462
