[xliv]+430, most text printed double column, title page vignette, numerous small decorative initials, a couple of head and tailpiece decorations; f'cap. 4to; in a typical contemporary German binding of tawed pigskin over wooden boards, the spine titled in an early hand, with 4 raised bands, the boards stamped in blind with an outer decorative border surrounding a rectangular panel comprised of 8 religious figures [saints?] in lozenges, around a central panel of floral columns, with two metal & leather side clasps, the boards slightly soiled and rubbed, the clasps functional but fragile; all edges stained early dark green; 2 different twentieth century bookplates on upper pastedown, lacking the upper free endpaper and any preliminary leaves before title, early inked annotation to title page, several leaves quite browned, scattered light foxing and occasional soiling (including a few small early ink stains), a couple of tiny scorch marks, and a few small edge chips or tears; Antonij Hierati, Coloniae Agrippinae [Cologne], 1608. *The Belgian Jesuit Francis Coster (1532-1619) lectured on scripture and astronomy at the University of Cologne, and served two terms as Provincial of the Jesuit province of Belgium, and one term as Provincial of the Rhine. He published numerous works of theology and polemics, the most famous of which (Enchiridion controversiarum praecipuarum nostri temporis de Religione) was translated into several languages. The Conciones contains his sermons on the Gospel for each Sunday of the religious calendar from Trinity to Advent. Item #096523
