[vi]+220(last blank)+[10](last blank); f'cap. 8vo; dark green textured cloth, upper board lettered in gilt, slightly soiled and worn, upper joint starting, light fracture across upper board below title, the fore-corners and spine extremities chipped; early binder's ticket ('bound at the Register Adelaide') at head of upper pastedown and inked signature partially rubbed from centre of same, later ownership stamp on upper free endpaper, hinges cracked, free endpapers offset, a couple of small edge chips, long closed tear across pp. 143/4 repaired in 4 places with tape, a few small damp stains, scattered soiling and foxing; Whaley, Austin & Co., Gawler, S.A., 1870. Australian edition. Miller & Macartney, p. 183. *Maud Jeanne Franc was the pseudonym of Matilda Jane Congreve (1827-1886), who arrived in South Australia in 1849.
