First edition. *Hutton's first book, Swordsmanship, was published in 1862. Following retirement from the army in 1865 he devoted himself to the practice of modern fencing. He later published Cold Steel, a work devoted to the sabre. Under his instruction, the School of Arms of the London Rifle Brigade reached a very high level of swordsmanship. He was the first President of the Amateur Fencing Association in Britain and, later, was a fencing delegate to the British Olympic Council and a jury member at the International Cup in Paris in 1903.
