First U.S. edition. Loder p. 235. *Set in the south coast mountains of the Illawara district, New South Wales. Published in England by Heinemann later in the same year as Bony and the Kelly Gang. (Upfield's original choice of title was The Smuggler's Apprentice). Although no Australian edition was issued, there was an Australian variant of the British Heinemann dust wrapper. Bony and theKelly Gangwas serialised in Australia in the Sydney Morning Heraldin 1960. A Detective Book Club edition of the American title was also issued in 1960. Item #132132
