Each signature (various pagination and paper stock) of each volume was prepared by one of the distinguished presses in America or Europe. Original illustrations include a linocut by Hans Alexander Mueller, and woodcuts and wood engravings by Dorothy McEntee, Thomas Nason and Paul Landacre; included are articles about Charles Dickens, William Beckford, historic bibles, a bibliographic account of the Bacon-Shakespeare controversy, Hans Andersen fairy tales, English and American illustrators, Walt Whitman and D.
