Item #135434 SANCTIONS. Wayzgoose Broadside No. 24.

SANCTIONS.

Broadside, printed in seven colours on Magnani Incisioni, with linocut by Mike Hudson; 70 cm. x 50 cm.; The Wayzgoose Press, Katoomba, NSW, 2000. Number 20 of 20 numbered copies, signed by Mike Hudson. *'Taking aim at US foreign policy, [the broadside] depicted the Statue of Liberty setting fire to a line of 'cut-out' paper dolls with her torch. A text quoting Madeleine Albright's (the then Secretary of State) assessment of sanctions as being among "some of the most powerful weapons in our armoury" was countered by "some sobering UNICEF statistics attributing the deaths of more than 500,000 Iraqi children under five years old to embargo related causes. The illustrations were cut in lino and the whole printed in seven colours." Jadwiga Jarvis, The Wayzgoose Affair. According to Trove, two versions exist for this broadside. Item #135434
