Harrop 24; Huges-Stanton 14. *Blair Hughes-Stanton also designed the title page, which incorporates a press device with the initials of the press interlaced back to back, and superimposed on a cross (Harrop device No. 22, p. 254). At the time of publication, Hughes-Stanton's relationship with The Gregynog Press was strained. Some of the board felt that his wood engravings were too erotic, and his personal conduct was also causing concern. 'These engravings, in which the strange elongated figures exude a strange power and even menace, emphasise the artist's complete technical mastery of the medium' [Harrop, p. 110]. Item #135653
