Pp. 96, frontispiece portrait plus 13 plates, title page vignette and numerous text illustrations (some full page); narrow cr. 4to; orange cloth, lettered in black, upper board ruled in red, slightly soiled, edges lightly rubbed, with small chip to bottom edge of lower board; bookplate of David Levine, Sydney, and bookseller's sticker on upper pastedown, the free endpapers offset, short closed tear to bottom edge of frontispiece, scattered foxing and occasional slight soiling; published for 'The Bystander' by Hodder & Stoughton, London, n.d.[191-?]. *With an inked inscription on the upper free endpaper, which is not signed, but is almost certainly in Bairnsfather's distinctive hand and reads in part: To Rosie, wishing her every success in her profession'. Bairnsfather (1887-1959) became famous for his cartoons in The Bystander magazine during the First World War. Item #151623
