'The author, after a military career, arrived in Western Australia with his wife in June, 1830. He explored the country between Perth and King George's Sound. Eventually he became Manger in Western Australia the Bank of Australasia. In April, 1846, he proceeded to Adelaide and assumed charge of the Bank of Australasia at that place. His career in South Australia was varied including the promotion of churches and schools, membership of the Legislative Council and service as a magistrate.
