Second edition, trade issue. *250 large paper copies were also issued. This is an enlarged edition of The Catnach Press: a collection of the books and wood-cuts of James Catnach... (Reeves & Turner, 1869). An early example of a dust wrapper, with illustrations on both flaps as well as the back panel. John and James Catnach were father & son printers and major publishers of chapbooks in the 18th and early 19th century. Many of their chapbooks are reproduced here, some with woodcuts by Thomas Bewick. Item #164277
