Bishop John Fell, one of the founders of the Press, bequeathed it several matrices and punches in his will in the late seventeenth century. After decades of neglect, the types were first recast from the matrices in the 1860s, and between then and the closure of the Printing House in 1989, they were used for the printing of nearly 300 books. The original leaves in this copy are from Richard Challoner, Meditations for Every Day in the Year (1916); Bonamy Dobree, Restoration Tragedy, 1660-1720, (1929); Bullet's Seed of Israel: Tales from the English Bible(1929); and Print and Privilege at Oxford, by John Johnson & Strickland Gibson (1946).
