Pp. viii+[iv](contents, blank)+146, several binder's blanks at end; post 8vo; twentieth century half calf, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, brown cloth boards; ownership inscription (dated 1922) partly rubbed from blank preliminary leaf, a little light foxing; printed for J. Debrett, London, 1789. Second edition. F.49. *Lacking (as often) the final leaf of advertisements (not mentioned in Ferguson). 'The earliest authentic account of the colony' [Wantrup, page 54]. Three editions were printed in 1789, the first in April 1789, only a couple of weeks after the Fleet had returned to England. The book was also published in Dublin in the same year, and translations were made into French, German and Dutch. Item #166860
