The earlier bookplate is that of Sir Humphrey Edmund de Trafford, 4th Baronet (1891-19791), leading racehorse owner (and the grandfather of Brigadier Andrew Parker Bowles). Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715) was a Scottish philosopher and historian whose History of the Reformation of the Church of England remained the standard reference work on the subject for over a century. In 1689 he was appointed Bishop of Salisbury. Item #167200
