First edition. *Loosely inserted is a 42 page booklet, Treasures from the Suzannet Collection, being an illustrated catalogue (compiled by Michael Slater, with a foreword by Leslie C. Staples), of an exhibition held at The Dickens House, London, 1 June - 12 September, 1970. Comte Alain de Suzannet, a French scholar and bibliophile, formed his Dickens collection over a period of 30 years. At his death in 1950, it was one of the two finest privately-owned collections of Dickensiana. Half the collection was sold by his widow in 1971 in a two-day sale at Sotheby's. Item #078799
