[340]+[96], 55 engraved plates (including frontispiece portrait of George II); cr. 12mo; early black calf, lettered and decorated in gilt, including the initials RC at centre of boards, the boards lightly rubbed, corners bruised, spine neatly repaired at extremities; a.e.g.; marbled endpapers, hinges tender, bookplate on blank preliminary leaf, early inked signature at head of title page, scattered light foxing and soiling, several marginal damp stains and a few small edge chips; printed by John Baskett, London, 1741. Collates as for Griffiths 1741, 2.*With provenance inscriptions dating from 1864 to 1901 on the upper free endpaper and blank preliminary leaf - the earliest being a gift inscription from John Irving, Lieut. Commanding, 1st Company, Forest of Dean Fifth Corps, to Rev. Charles Dighton (who was appointed Honorary Chaplain to the 12th Gloucestershire Rifle Volunteer Corpts in 1861). The Book of Psalms, which is dated 1741, was printed by Thomas Wood. Item #096768
