[viii]+226+[iv]+[227]-454(last blank), the title pages printed in red & black; brown buckram, spines lettered and ruled in gilt, boards a trifle canted and slightly scuffed, corners lightly bruised; t.e.g., others uncut; marbled endpapers; hinges starting at a couple of points, newscutting (author's obituary) pinned to half-title and portion of publisher's prospectus (for a later impression of this book) pinned to dedication page (both pins slightly rusted), short closed tear to fore-edge margin pages 193/4 Volume I, a little light foxing and occasional slight soiling; The Piazza Press/Peter Davies, London, 1929. First edition, limited to 520 numbered sets. *One of the best known and most enduring war novels, based largely on the author's own experiences. Authorship was not formally attributed to Manning until after his death in 1935. A trade edition, with 'certain prunings and excisings' [limitation page] was published in 1930, retitled Her Privates We.. Item #132657
