Pp. vi+38, tinted frontispiece and 9 plates; small f'cap. 4to; printed paper wrappers, lightly soiled and worn, edges and backstrip creased and split, with a couple of small chips; name and date (1920) in ink on blank preliminary leaf; Paul Elder and Company, San Francisco, 1905. *Jonson's play Every Man in His Humour was first performed by the Lord Chamberlain's Servants in 1598. The cast included Richard Burbage, the leading actor of the day, and Shakespeare himself, in the part of Kno'well, the aged father. The play belongs to the subgenre of the humours comedy in which each major character is dominated by an over-riding humour or obsession. In 1599, Jonson wrote a sequel, Every Man out of His Humour.
