Wellcome II, p. 177. *The first general treatise on plastic surgery, originally published as a thesis earlier in the same year (De l'autoplastie: these presentee et soutenue le 19 Fevrier 1836: au concours pour une chaire de clinique chirurgicale vacante a la Faculte de Medecine de Paris). Philippe Frederic Blandin (1798-1849) is credited with coining the term autoplasty to describe skin taken from the same patient for grafting purposes. He is remembered today for his pioneer work in rhinoplasty and septoplasty. Item #148438
