Guillaume Dupuytren (1777-1835) was head surgeon at the Paris hospital Hotel-Dieu. He began his career as a military surgeon, treating Napoleon's haemorrhoids. He is best known today for his description of Dupuytren's contracture, a thickening and tightening of tissue under the skin in the hand, named after him. Item #148477
