Pp. iv+110, with 9 small albumen prints mounted on 5 leaves (one as frontispiece), large coloured folding plan; demy 8vo; dark blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, the boards lightly worn and slightly sprung; fore-edges uncut, all edges sprinkled red; bookplate of David Levine, Sydney, (adjacent to a previous owner's inked signature and laid over an earlier bookplate) on the upper pastedown, upper hinge cracked, the inner hinges starting at a couple of points, closed tear from inner margin of folding plan across one panel, the last leaf of plates detached, a few small edge splits or chips, a little light foxing and soiling; Edward Standford, London, 1871. First edition. *Lacking the folding map which should be in the pocket on the lower pastedown. An early instance of using photography for war reporting. Images include a 'railway bridge across the Meuse at Villette, blown up by the French'; a house 'in front of which the Emperor Napoleon and Bismarck conversed'; and 'Park of guns, mitrailleuses &c at Sedan taken from the French').
