First edition. Recits d'Autrefois series. *From the library of Sydney bibliophile David Levine, with his bookplate on verso of upper wrapper. Leonce Rousset (1850-1938) was wounded in 1870 during the Battle of Metz, before being taken prisoner by the Prussian army. After the armistice, he was released and then promoted to Lieutenant in 1873. He served in the French colonies for several years, in New Caledonia and Algeria, and carried out several topographical works in North Africa during the 1880s. He was the author of numerous historical and military publications. Item #156408
