'Percipient readers of An Enquiry will have noticed that, although we had satisfied ourselves that the Reading edition of Mrs. Browning's Sonnets and some Ruskin pamphlets were forgeries, the wide range of the fraud was only revealed by the evidence of H. E. Gorfin's purchases from T. J. Wise' [Introduction]. The four 'Working Papers' were the last of Carter and Pollard's researches to be published; Carter died in 1975, Pollard in 1976. Item #157296
