The work is primarily by James P. Smart, 'Wise's function being limited to the editing of commentary and the interpolating of 'new' material' [Todd]. Wise 'legitimized' some of his Ruskin forgeries by including them in his Ruskin bibliography. Barker & Collins, in A Sequel to an Inquiry [p. 135] describe this as 'the first sign of a new development: "dressing-up" a forgery by announcing its existence in print'. Item #158109
