A bibliographical 'ghost' is 'a non-existent book or edition or issue erroneously included in some work of reference which by repetition has achieved a misleading semblance of reality' [p. 384]. Todd points out that in his bibliography of Tennyson, and later in the final Ashley Library volume, Wise created a 'ghost' edition of Coventry Patmore's The Circles. Item #160034
