Keain 109. *Poem. The printer's statement at the colophon explains that 'The Southwellian was written by my good friend James Devaney on the publication of "The Southwellian" August 1938. It is here put into more lasting form as a token of appreciation. John Gartner.' The Southwellian was a short-lived poetry periodical published by the Catholic Poetry Society of Queensland in 1938. Only one issue was published. In addition to Devaney, contributors included Paul Grano, Frank C. Francis, Paula Fitzgerald, Martin Haley, Gwen Belson Taylor, all of whom are referenced in this poem.
