Pp. 86(last blank)+[2](colophon), notes; med. 8vo; brown trellis patterned paste-papered boards, with printed paper title label on spine, boards faintly scuffed, edges lightly rubbed; uncut and partly unopened; small red inked annotation on upper pastedown, some light foxing; printed at the Officina Bodoni, Montagnola, Switzerland, for Elkin Mathews Limited, London, 1926. Edition limited to 250 copies printed by hand with the original 12 point type Cuneo of Giambattista Bodoni. Barr 17. *The first edition of Hieroglyphic Tales consisted of only 6 copies, printed by the author at Strawberry Hill in 1785. This is the text of the first edition, plus notes written by Walpole in his own copy of the first edition. Officina Bodoni was founded in 1922 by Giovanna Mardersteig. With the permission of the Museo Bodoniano at Parma, he printed books with types cast from the original matrices of the great Italian typographer Giambattista Bodoni. Item #162938
