First edition. English Men of Letters series. *With the pencilled signature of Marie C. Stopes on upper free endpaper, and a little pencilling (mainly underlining) on a couple of pages, presumably in her hand. Marie Carmichael Stopes (1880-1958) was best known as a campaigner for women's rights and a pioneer in the field of birth control. She also wrote plays, and in her later years published several volumes of poetry. Item #165174
