Pp. 64, chromolithographic half-title page, frontispiece, title page and numerous text illustrations (mostly full page), plus numerous sepia text illustrations, floral patterned endpapers; small cr. 4to; light brown cloth backed pictorial glazed papered boards, slightly soiled and a trifle flecked, edges lightly worn; hinges starting, a little light foxing and browning, occasional slight soiling; Hildesheimer & Faulkner, London, n.d.[c. 1883?]. *Frederic Edward Weatherly (1848-1929) wrote the lyrics to numerous popular songs, the best known being Danny Boy, The Holy City, and Roses of Picardy. British artist Mary Ellen Edwards (1838-1934) contributed to numerous periodicals, including the Cornhill Magazine, and was on the staff of The Graphic from 1869 to 1880. In 1872 she married John Charles Staples (1844-1897), and they collaborated on several projects, including this, which presumably dates from the 1880s, after Albert Hildesheimer's publishing partnership with Charles William Faulkner began in 1881.
