British artist Mary Ellen Edwards (1838-1934) contributed illustrations to several books and periodicals, including the Cornhill Magazine and The Graphic. From 1864 to 1908, she was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy. John Charles Staples was her second husband, whom she married in 1872. They collaborated on many projects until his death in 1897.
