A PROCLAMATION FOR RECALLING OF COMMISSIONS AT SEA.
Charles R . . . Given at Our Court at Whitehal [sic], the Fifteenth June in the Twelfth Year of His Majesty's Reign, 1660. Broadside, with Royal Arms at head and decorative leading initial W; 28.5 cm. x 27 cm., the top edge a trifle cropped (very slightly affecting the Arms) and lacking the imprint; slightly foxed, edges a trifle chipped; float mounted on brown card, glazed and framed; [printed by John Bill and Christopher Barker, printers to the Kings most excellent Majesty, London, 1660]. Wing C.3410 (recording 6 copies). *An early proclamation issued by the recently restored monarchy. (Charles was proclaimed King in May 1660). The proclamation is aimed at bringing back within the government fold sea captains and others who had been commissioned before the accession of Charles II. Anyone ignoring it would become liable to prosecution as a pirate. 'And his Majesty doth farther will, require, and command all and every his subjects who now are in the service of any foreign prince of state, by sea, or in sea affairs, forthwith, upon notice hereof, to repair to his Majesties Service, at home, in his Dominions'.
