She was one of the first women to study agriculture at an English university, and in 1939 she launched the Haughley Experiment at her farm, New Bells, the first long-term comparison of organic and chemical-based farming. Sir Walter Alexander Raleigh (1861-1922) was an English scholar, poet and author who in 1904 became the first holder of the Chair of English Literature at Oxford University. Item #178415
