Ellen Millicent Cobden, one of Richard Cobden's daughters, was a writer, radical campaigner and suffragist who was for a time married to the artist Walter Sickert. Solicitor and keen mountaineer Charles Edward Mathews (1834-1905) was a founder and President of The Alpine Club, the First President of the Climbers' Club, and a President of the Birmingham Shakespeare Society.
