Pp. 100, mostly printed double column, folding frontispiece portrait ('Ta Whiao'), plus one plate, folding map at end; small demy 8vo; dull green textured cloth, upper board lettered in gilt, edges of boards slightly rubbed, the lower board a trifle soiled, spine faintly faded; long pencilled annotation on verso of upper free endpaper, plus a two-line annotation to the lower free endpaper and some scattered pencil marks to the margins, lower hinge tender, tiny nick to fore-edge of frontispiece, a couple of short splits or closed tears to edges of folding map, outer leaves and edges lightly foxed; printed and published for the Proprietor by J. D. Wickham, Auckland, n.d.[1879]. Ingleton 5332. *A variant imprint to the one recorded by Hocken, p. 318 (which was printed by John Henry Field and lacks the folding frontispiece portrait present here). This is the Ingleton copy, with the bookplate of G. & N. Ingleton on upper pastedown, and the (faint) green stamped Ingleton Catalogue number on lower pastedown. Later from the library of David Levine, Sydney, with his bookplate also on upper pastedown. The inked signature of an early owner (A. Wilson) is on the upper free endpaper. Item #179296
