In May 1926, the United Kingdom experienced its historic nine-day General Strike (begun on 3rd May and ended on 12th May). Prime Minister Baldwin handled the crisis directly from 10 Downing Street. At the time, Sir John Anderson served as the Permanent Under-Secretary of State for the Home Office. He was the top civil servant responsible for maintaining public order, managing emergency transport, and coordinating food supplies during the strike to prevent national collapse. Item #180084
