First edition. F.17407. *Horticulturalist and botanist Frederick Turner (1852-1939) began his Australian career at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens in 1874. In 1880 he moved to the Botanic Gardens, Sydney, and in 1890 he was appointed economic botanist in the new Department of Agriculture. Turner 'contributed some 140 articles to the department's Agricultural Gazette of New South Wales. He mainly wrote about crops, weeds and toxic plants, grasses, pasture plants and agricultural procedures' [Australian Dictionary of Biography]. George Adcock (1860-1931) was a teacher and botanist who was Principal of the Viticultural Station and School in Rutherglen, Victoria, from 1906 to 1920. He was an active member of the Geelong Field Naturalists Club, and a fellow of the Linnean Society. Item #183684
