One of the book trade biographies that I particularly enjoyed during my early years as a bookseller was Sylvia Beach’s Shakespeare and Company [Faber, London, 1960]. During a trip to Paris some years later I was both excited, and a bit disappointed, during my visit to this famous Paris bookshop.
George Whitman visited our bookshop during his visit to Melbourne in 1984 – he was charming.
